A trip to Commonwealth area in Singapore is always an adventure, but even more so when you know where to look.
Whether you’re looking for delicious food or a historical place, there’s something in Commonwealth that everyone will love. Here are our top five picks!
1. Dine at Commonwealth Crescent Market and Food Centre
The Singaporean food centre has a variety of stalls that offer some truly authentic dishes. You can enjoy Hong Kong-style porridge, chicken rice, and noodles as well as dessert or coffee at reasonable prices here!
There is also an egg seller with fresh eggs from local farms available for purchase too. It’s one of Singapore’s oldest food centres so you’re sure to find treasures in this place!
Location: 31 Commonwealth Cres, Singapore 149644
Opening Hours: Daily 7AM–5:30PM
2. Try the Milky Way Homemade Ice Cream and Coffee
When you’re looking for an unforgettable meal, come here. Signature Noodles are the perfect bowl of noodles! It’s so good and flavourful you’ll find yourself finishing everything on your plate with ease (and then some).
There were many ingredients used in making these soup-based dishes which made them all taste fresh instead of generic tasting like most places do nowadays; additionally at $6 per serving it won’t break your budget either.
You will be hard-pressed to find a better meal than the Bak Chor Mee and homemade ice cream at this hidden gem in Singapore. You’re also guaranteed not only to satisfy your sweet tooth but send you packing on an energy high as well!
Location: Blk 48 Tanglin Halt Rd, #01-333, Singapore 142048

3. Check Out MOE Heritage Centre
When the students were moved to a new school two streets up, previously New Town Primary School became a MOE Heritage Centre and now secretly a museum. People are welcomed on Fridays to enter with their own nostalgia for Singapore’s past.
Don’t forget to check out old textbooks from years ago as well as desks that have seen many smiling faces over the course of time.
Location: 402 Commonwealth Dr, Singapore 149599
4. Explore Tanglin Halt Market
This old market has been around for quite some time and it’s no wonder that the food here tastes so good. I recommend stopping by before they demolish this building forever!
Location: 48A Tanglin Halt Rd, Singapore 148813
Opening Hours: 6AM–9:30PM
5. Get a Haircut at Sin Palace Hairdressing Saloon
Come inside this fully air-conditioned barbershop and be instantly transported back to the 70s, 80s, or even ’90s with 95.8fm radio music playing in the background! Friendly Uncle Ong looks after you like a traditional Chinese Barber would; tell him how short (or long) your hair is by indicating which number clip it will go on – from 1 through 5 clips for each type of cut imaginable.
The full package includes everything from a shave with the most traditional chair, hair wash on-site and even ear digging. If you’re old school enough like me then go-ahead for an authentic experience!
Location: 117 Commonwealth Cres, 01-731, Singapore 140117
